Early Herriott history starts in Scotland. David Herriott emigrated from Scotland to America in 1685 but whether or not he came on the Henry and Francis is unclear. He settled in New Jersey and has many descendants in America today, with over 20,000 having been identified. There have been a number of other Herriotts emigrate to America. These include the Heriots of South Carolina whose ancestors emigrated from Scotland in the middle of the 18th century. We also have identified a line of Herriotts who came to America in the 18th century after first passing through Ireland. These we have dubbed our Belfast line.
